Surfing, Sunny Weather & Tips for Low Budget Traveling
The Harbour City is without a doubt one of the most well-known cities in the world. It is best known for its popular tourist attractions such as the Sydney Opera House or the Sydney Harbour. And while it is a beautiful city, it is not exactly known for being a cheap destination. In order to help you stay within your budget, we have put together 7 of the most useful tips for budget traveling in this metropolis
Public transport in Sydney
The first tip is to use public transport. It might be tempting to use taxis and other expensive means of transport, but the city has a great public transport system. It allows you to get almost anywhere for a reasonable price.
Don’t travel to Sydney during the summer
Everybody likes to travel during the summer, when the sun is constantly shining and beaches are packed, but unfortunately this is also the most expensive time of the year to visit the city
This is why we recommend budget travelers to travel during the other seasons. Temperatures remain quite comfortable during these seasons, and best of all, it allows you to get much more value for your money!
Cook whenever you have the opportunity
Sydney hosts a wide variety of restaurants and food stands, and it’s a very enticing place for foodies. However, as with most things here, this is not cheap.
We definitely recommend treating yourself to some of the city’s famous restaurants once or twice, but if you want to stay within your budget, stick with cooking for yourself! Furthermore, meat is relatively expensive, so if you’re on a really tight budget, a vegetarian diet will be healthy for both you and your wallet.

Get a local phone plan
Depending on your situation it might save you a lot of money if you get a local phone plan instead of sticking with your current plan.
While the internet here is not great generally, local phone plans are usually cheaper than phone plans from companies abroad.
Stay in hostels, not hotels!
Accommodations are not cheap in Sydney and will slowly burn a hole in your wallet, making hotels a no-go zone for anyone traveling on a budget. However, there are many possibilities to save on accommodation costs.
We recommend staying in one of the many hostels Sydney has to offer, as they offer decent levels of comfort at a fraction of the price of a hotel.
Visit the free tourist places around Sydney
The Harbour City is a big place and comes with many interesting and exciting tourist attractions which you can visit for free. This allows you to have a great time without breaking the bank on expensive attractions.
One of many great examples is visiting the beach. There are many great beaches which are known for their astonishing looks and great accessibility.
Another great example are the museums. You can visit a wide range of museums which can be visited free of charge, with popular examples being the Contemporary Art Museum and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Using these tips, you will be able to save a lot of money during your study abroad.
